Rebecca Szymczak, aka Cardsy B, author of The Saturn Diaries and tarot reader to the stars, consulted her tarot deck and has tips for which signs should leverage January’s new year’s excitement to go full steam ahead on new ventures and which signs should get clearer on some of the lessons from Q4 of 2024 before taking bold leaps. She also has some insight into prosperity—both in existing and new roles—coming in where you may least expect it, as well as key dates to capitalize on (like the second week of January).
In 2024, we moved through a numerological eight year (2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 8). Eights indicate a time of persistence, overcoming obstacles, and growth. (You can also find your individual numerology for the year by adding the single digits of your birth day and month to 2025.)
In 2025, we’re now moving into a nine year, completing cycles and reaching goals that our work in 2024 set into motion. Numerological nine years also ask us to let go of anything that’s no longer working to open to new and exciting opportunities that’ll be much more fulfilling.
Additionally, we have the majority of our planets moving out of earth and water signs, which are slower moving and more contemplative, and moving into fire and air signs—the LFG energy of the zodiac—in 2025. The new year launches with Venus entering Pisces on January 3. This transit ignites insight and passion regarding new deals and contracts beginning this month—what may have been stuck in the mud in December will now be ready to roll. On Wednesday, January 8, Mercury moves into Capricorn and is finally out of its retrograde shadow, meaning the second week of January is an ideal time for launches, pitches, and signing contracts. An important checkpoint arrives on January 13 when the full moon in Cancer asks where we may need to evaluate our teams’ responsibilities for the upcoming weeks to be as efficient and organized as possible as new opportunities arrive in the second half of the month.
Starting this January, it’ll become more and more important to wrap up old cycles, including work habits and limiting beliefs that are no longer bringing expansion. If we’re willing to surrender the old, significant new introductions, opportunities, and upgrades are in store for all signs this year. Remember, in a nine year, when we take full responsibility and surrender what isn’t serving, anything is possible.
Read on to see what the cards have in store for your sign…
Aries/Aries Rising (March 21 to April 19)
Card: Eight of Pentacles
Aries are usually first out of the gate and raring to go. The good news is this January, your approach to kicking off a prosperous new year is through a calm, methodical approach versus a fiery impatience.
Highlight: Marathon Mindset
Don’t get me wrong, big moves are in the cards this month—especially on or around January 8 when Mercury moves into Capricorn—but you’re more confident in the long game and can make wiser decisions as a result.
Heads Up: Out with the Old (Habits)
Though you head into January calm and confident, some minor glitches around January 13 may trigger old control-freak tendencies. Pause and reflect before making abrupt decisions mid-month.
Mantra: Perfect Timing
– Shedeur Sanders
Taurus/Taurus Rising (April 20 to May 20)
Card: Temperance
The new year launches you into an exciting uplevel. If you haven’t already closed a deal or position that arose in December, it’s coming this month.
Highlight: Feeling Like the Best Version of Yourself
After a responsibility-heavy and, at times, overwhelming pace last year, your efforts are receiving recognition and rewards, allowing you to thrive in the spotlight of your department/industry and be celebrated by your team.
Heads Up: Don’t Lose Sight of The Bigger Picture
The holidays offered a much-needed reset and recalibration, but as soon as Venus enters Pisces on January 3, the increase in progress and deals closing may throw you back into overexertion mode. Make sure to continue to take time to replenish and restore your energy where needed.
Mantra: Be Good To Yourself
– Journey
Gemini/Gemini Rising (May 21 to June 20)
Card: Two of Swords
Decisions or negotiations underway at the end of the year may still be wrapping up in early January.
Highlight: Speak Your Truth
After Mercury moves into Capricorn on January 8, details are being finalized, but you still need to make a decision or sign off. It’s essential to speak up and advocate for yourself and your team.
Heads Up: Clarity is Key
Geminis are ruled by the planet Mercury, which is clearing its shadow period in early January. This allows you to use your words more clearly. Don’t hold back or assume that the other party should know what you need—this is a time to say more.
Mantra: Use My Voice
– Evanescence
Cancer/Cancer Rising (June 21 to July 22)
Card: The Empress
The Empress is known as the divine mother/nurturer card. This card indicates that your leadership and mentorship abilities will shine this month.
Highlight: Focus on Leadership
The Empress suggests that your role and/or the team reporting to you is likely to grow this month. As a result, it’s important to address any pending issues or existing needs with your team by the full moon in Cancer on January 13. This will help set you up for maximum success for the quarter ahead.
Heads Up: You Don’t Have to Do It All
Yes, it’s important to lead, but it’s also essential to empower and delegate to your team members for the best workflow and to set the stage for collaboration for the year ahead.
Mantra: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
– Very Big Things
Leo/Leo Rising (July 23 to August 22)
Card: Six of Cups
The Six of Cups indicates a reunion of sorts. This could be a job opportunity with an old boss you admire or closing a deal with a former colleague or client.
Highlight: Thriving in Collaboration
If you felt a little lonely or not as much in an inspired give-and-take groove at work in 2024, this new energy from the past brings a burst of motivation, the second week of January after the eighth ushers in this exciting news.
Heads Up: Release Outdated Beliefs
Because you already have a level of familiarity with a situation or individual coming in this month, it may be tempting to revert to old patterns or behaviors that may not serve this new dynamic. Assess the best approach from where you are at in the present.
Mantra: Reunited and it Feels So Good
– Peaches & Herb
Virgo/Virgo Rising (August 23 to September 22)
Card: The Chariot
You’re coming out of the gate H-O-T-T-O-G-O, Virgo. As one of the hardest working signs in the zodiac, it makes sense that you already had important meetings and calls lined up before you went on holiday break. Give your past-self gratitude for the work you put in at the end of the year to make this January prosperous.
Highlight: Coming into 2025 Like a Wrecking Ball
When you return to work in January, you’ll have the energy of double espresso chased by Red Bull. Channel this into what you’re passionate about making happen in the first quarter.
Heads Up: Pacing and Patience
Everyone may not be as excited to get back to work as you are, so be patient with your team as they integrate back into work mode, especially around the full moon in Cancer on January 13.
Mantra: Get the Balance Right
– Depeche Mode
Libra/Libra Rising (September 23 to October 22)
Card: Knight of Swords
The element of air rules the Knight of Swords, just like Libra. This card reminds you that you’re back in your element and communication is feeling easier and more in flow (thanks, Mercury, direct in Capricorn).
Highlight: A++ Efficiency
If you were feeling stuck in December—maybe a little holiday vacation-itis or end-of-year burnout—January puts you back in your groove. You shine in meetings after January 8, where your voice and ideas are heard and highlighted in a whole new way.
Heads Up: Detach from Overhyped Expectations
Because the first half of the month flows so smoothly, trying to finish a significant project well before the due date may feel tempting. Allow yourself to follow the OG calendar, as Aquarius season (starting January 20) is a better finish line for this initiative.
Mantra: Get Into The Groove
– Madonna
Scorpio/Scorpio Rising (October 23 to November 21)
Card: Four of Pentacles
You’re likely entering the year with a pretty air-tight plan. The Four of Pentacles reminds us not to grip too tightly to plans that our past selves set. Openness to change also means an invitation for expansion.
Highlight: Surrender is Your Friend
New information that comes to light near the full moon in Cancer, a fellow water sign, on January 13 illuminates how a willingness to be flexible and maybe even rework parts of a Q1 plan or budget will serve you and your team in the long run.
Heads Up: Don’t Let Stubbornness Take Over
Scorpios are powerful leaders but are sometimes averse to change. It’s important to lean into your intuition rather than steadfastly adhering to a previous plan.
Mantra: Roll With It
– Steve Winwood
Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising (November 22 to December 23)
Card: Six of Wands
Though your season may be over, the Capricorn part of January (through January 20) serves you well as excitement builds around your work due to additional eyes on a pending project from last year.
Highlight: Directness Serves You
Sagittarians can sometimes get the bad rap of being the overly blunt sign of the zodiac. However, this clear-to-the-point communication style helps you get some important deals signed and in motion this month.
Heads Up: Say The Thing
Because the end of 2024 came with multiple retrogrades and a fair share of delays, you may feel out of practice with your “ask and it is given” Midas manifestation touch. But remember, as Madonna says, “Many people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.”
Mantra: Just Ask
– Greater Vision
Capricorn/Capricorn Rising (December 22 to January 19)
Card: The Fool
Happy Birthday, Capricorn. The Fool brings a blank canvas for the new year, demonstrating that you did an impressive job wrapping any loose ends on pending projects last month and clearing out anything that won’t work in 2025.
Highlight: New Year, Clean Slate
2024 was a year that tested your confidence and conviction, but Pluto releasing its grip on Capricorn as it moved to Aquarius is giving you a fresh start where you can own your throne. Circle January 8 as a key date for meetings and outreach as Mercury moves into your sign and gives any outreach from you a golden glow.
Heads Up: Release Last Year’s Stories
2025 reminds you that you’re in a whole new chapter, a nine year that rewards you for all you’ve navigated over the past few years. Old triggers from past perceived failures may pop up, but it’s important to recognize that this is a new year and a new you.
Mantra: Brand New Day
– Sting
Aquarius/Aquarius Rising (January 20 to February 18)
Card: Ten of Wands
The Ten of Wands is known as the “successful workaholic” card. You weathered some intense storms in 2024, Aquarius, and 2025 is showing you that your dedication and bravery to what you knew was right for you pays off.
Highlight: On the Other Side
A sense of relief arises with the start of Aquarius season (January 20) that feels like a genuine career up-leveling and reset. Look for unexpected calls or emails in the fourth week of January.
Heads Up: Keep Looking Forward
You may have some battle scars from last year, and understandably, you may be wary of new offers that come through at month’s end, but trust yourself to ask the right questions and discern from the present, not the past.
Mantra: Out of the Woods
– Taylor Swift
Pisces/Pisces Rising (February 19 to March 20)
Card: The High Priestess
The High Priestess is the most intuitive card in the Tarot and reminds you of the rewards for the experiences, including the wins and losses you navigated in your work in 2024.
Highlight: Intuitive Discernment On Point
Mid-month, after the Cancer full moon on January 13, brings some interesting projects your way that require fast and decisive action. You’ll look back to trials during Cancer season (June – July of 2024) with gratitude, as those lessons help you move forward with confidence and experience.
Heads Up: Faith Over Fear
The North Node is moving into your sign as of January 11, reminding all signs, especially Pisces, of the importance of choosing intuitive faith over fear and lack. This will be the most significant factor regarding a decision you are faced with during the second half of the month.
Mantra: Gotta Have Faith
– George Michael
