How does the human condition affect the design of our cities? Join us as we explore the data that shapes the city and region and some design principles that can alleviate the spatial patterns dictated by demographics.
Mike Carnathan from Neighborhood Nexus and the Atlanta Regional Commission will provide an overview of the demographic and socioeconomic conditions that have created uneven outcomes in the region and the city. Through an analysis of the data, he will discuss issues of inequality, housing affordability, uneven access to jobs and the uneven recovery from the Great Depression and show how these are spatially distributed. What will it take for Atlanta to be a city of more than a million people? Are we on track to become that city? How will the issues of generational poverty, inequality and housing affordability be addressed to ensure sustainable growth?
Designing the New Atlanta will be a series of events in partnership with the ARC starting with this event where we will analyze city-centric data collected by the Atlanta Regional Commission and Neighborhood Nexus.
